Feb 4, 2025

Another Sundance is in the books, and awards season is in full swing, with all of the major ceremonies having announced their nominees. Looking ahead, February is a bit of a mixed bag in terms of releases, ranging from smaller, independent films to bigger-budget productions trying to get people into the theater regardless of season. From horror to science fiction, there are action-heavy films on the docket.
Of course, the most significant release in terms of the studio is Marvel’s 35th film, “Captain America: Brave New World.” There’s also a Valentine’s Day-themed horror film, along with the latest from Osgood Perkins, and some tense race-against-the-clock thrillers for those looking for an adrenaline rush. Elsewhere, there’s the latest addition to the “Paddington” franchise for those needing some unwinding.
“Kinda Pregnant”Amy Schumer stars in the Netflix comedy “Kinda Pregnant” from director Tyler Spindel (“The Outlaws.”) Schumer plays Lainy, a woman who becomes jealous of her friend’s pregnancy and starts to wear a fake belly which becomes further complicated when she meets the man of her dreams. Jillian Bell, Brianne Howey, and Will Forte also star. Release Date: Available to stream on February 5 via Netflix.

“Heart Eyes”We’re getting a horror Valentine’s Day movie with “Heart Eyes.” The film, directed by Josh Ruben, follows co-workers who, after being mistaken as a couple, are targeted by the infamous Heart Eyes Killer. Written by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy, the film stars Olivia Holt, Mason Golding, Gigi Zumbado, and more. Release Date: In theaters February 7 via Sony Pictures Releasing.

“Love Hurts”Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan gets his action leading man moment in “Love Hurts.” Quan stars as a successful realtor whose past as a hitman comes back to haunt him when he learns he’s being hunted by his brother. Directed by Jonathan Eusebio in his directorial debut, the film also stars Ariana DeBose, Daniel Wu, Marshawn Lynch, Mustafa Shakir, and more. Release Date: In theaters February 7 via Universal Pictures.

“Parthenope”Filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino (“Youth,” “The Hand of God”) returns with the coming-of-age drama, “Parthenope.” Celeste Dalla Porta stars as the titular character who, during the 1950s, searches for happiness throughout the summers of her youth.
