“Empire of Light”There isn’t anything quite like working in a movie theatre, loving movies, and getting to share that connection with your coworkers and guests. Most theatres these days aren’t like The Empire. It is the type of theatre that we don’t see as often, an old-style theatre with red velvet seats and a bright, flashy marquee in the front. Telling the story of a cinema worker, her unlikely bond with a new employee, and their uncertain futures, Sam Mendes tells us a story about the magic of cinema. Starring Olivia Colman, Colin Firth, and Michael Ward.
“The Wonder” Based on the novel of the same name by Emma Donoghue, “The Wonder” stars Florence Pugh as an Irish nurse in the 19th century who is sent to investigate a case of a child who allegedly hasn’t eaten for months. During the course of her investigation, Wright realizes extraordinary measures must be taken to save the child from her situation. Directed by Sebastián Lelio and starring Pugh, Tom Burke, Niamh Algar, Kíla Lord Cassidy, and Elaine Cassidy.
“Women Talking” “Women Talking” is said to be a deep exploration of group responsibility, self-determination, faith, and forgiveness. Directed by Sarah Polley, the film is an adaption of Miriam Toews’s novel about a group of women in a religious community dealing with the aftermath of sexual assault. The film stars Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Frances McDormand, Ben Whishaw, and Judith Ivey.
Hildur Guðnadóttir, the Academy Award-winning composer of ‘Joker,’ has written the score for Sarah Polley’s upcoming #TIFF22-bound drama ‘WOMEN TALKING’ starring Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Judith Ivey, Ben Whishaw, and Frances McDormand. https://t.co/I8L0dp9o38 pic.twitter.com/4PJHnyqan6— The Playlist (@ThePlaylistNews) August 27, 2022“Lady Chatterley’s Lover”An adaption of the D. H. Larence novel of the same name tells the story of an upper-class woman who falls out of love with her husband because he would rather read or tend to matters of their estate than spend time with his wife. The emotional neglect leads to her breaking the traditions of her time as she begins an affair with a man who works on their estate. This fourth adaption of the novel stars Emma Corrin, Jack O’Connell, Matthew Duckett, and Joely Richardson. The film is directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre.
