James Gunn on the DC Books Sold Outs
May 11, 2023
The announcements of the new DCU and the first projects of DC Studios, commanded by James Gunn and Peter Safran, shook the world of cinema, television, and comics this week. After months of suspense, rumors, and speculation, some of the movies and series that will be part of the Gods and Monsters chapter have finally been revealed, the first phase of a 10-year plan to restore the franchise’s identity.
Gunn not only named the heroes we will see on screen in the coming years, but he also went further and commented specifically on the stories that inspired him to build the foundations of his universe: All-Star Superman, Batman by Grant Morrison, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Authority and The Absolute Swamp Thing.

As expected, desperate fans ran to acquire these titles to understand a little more about what they are going to find in the new DCU, which is causing a lack of these titles in several places, leading many readers into crisis by not being able to find them in their local comic book stores.

James Gunn Brings Tranquility to DC Fans
Warner Bros./DC Studios
In the midst of the conflict, James Gunn came out to bring some peace to the DC Comics community, commenting that he spoke with Jim Lee himself, Chief Creative Officer-Publisher of the company:
It is not the first time that Gunn has answered fans’ questions or concerns. In fact, it has already become a habit for him to use his social media accounts to clarify any situation that generates conflict with his followers, especially now that he is in charge of such a big franchise.
In recent months, he has been in charge of dispelling rumors such as the choice of an actor as the future Superman or Batman, the alleged bad relationships with some of the former stars such as Henry Cavill or Dwayne Johnson, and even responding to the cancelation of projects that had nothing to do with their management as Titans and Doom Patrol.
One of the most recent issues he attended was the supposed casting of the new Superman, with many fans assuming it had already been done. James clarified that this was not the case and that the casting process for that role has not yet begun, which will be fundamental in what he is building. What we do know about the new Man of Steel is that he will be around 25 years old, so we can expect a young actor to play him, far from Henry Cavill’s version.
