Fresh off its world premiere at the Berlinale in February, “Reality” sees Sweeney star as whistleblower Reality Winner, a former US Air Force member and NSA translator arrested for leaking an intelligence report to The Intercept news outlet in 2017.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Reality,” courtesy of HBO:
On June 3, 2017, 25-year-old former American intelligence specialist Reality Winner (Sydney Sweeney) is confronted by FBI agents arriving at her home to question her suspected role in the mishandling of classified information. Based on true events, the film’s dialogue is directly from the transcript of their tense and transfixing conversation.
“Reality” also stars Josh Hamilton, Marchánt Davis, Benny Elledge, and Allan Anthony Smith.
Tina Satter adapts her play “Is This A Room” for her feature debut with James Paul Dallas. Producers on “Reality” include Noah Stahl, Bard Becker-Parton, Riva Marker, and Greg Nobile.  Ellyn Daniels, Will O’Connor, Daniel Ginsburg, Andrew Beck, Bill Way, Elliott Whitton, Eva Marie Daniells, Philipp Engelhorn, Caitlin Gold, and Satter serve as executive producers on the film.
“Reality” got a lot of love from critics at Berlin, with The Playlist’s review calling Sweeney’s performance a “tour de force.” So, Max subscribers, mark your calendars for May 29, when “Reality” premieres on the streamer. Watch a trailer for the film below.
