Todd Haynes Is Working With Kate Winslet On A New HBO Project

May 23, 2023

Even though “May December” has only just premiered at Cannes and has yet to officially get a release date around the world, film fans are curious about what filmmaker Todd Haynes has lined up next. Well, we’re not completely sure what’s actually next. We know he’s working with Joaquin Phoenix on a new 1930s-set “gay love story.” He’s also got a new film with Michelle Williams that’s supposed to get done at some point. But according to Haynes, he has yet another collaboration with Kate Winslet also on the horizon.

According to an interview with Indiewire, Todd Haynes says he’s currently talking with Kate Winslet about working on a new project for HBO. He doesn’t share any details, but you better believe this is great news, as the duo previously worked together on the HBO series, “Mildred Pierce,” more than a decade ago. That series was well before the current era of prestige limited series.
“All I can do is just keep hunkering down and committing to each project,” Haynes said. “I have more features planned. I have also episodic projects coming that are planned, that are really exciting. I’m going back to work with Kate Winslet with something she brought me for HBO.”

It’s unclear what project Haynes is talking about, in regards to what he’s working on with Winslet. We know she has a new series “The Regime” coming to HBO, but that series is seemingly already finished with production. He could be talking about “Trust,” which was reportedly in development last summer. Or perhaps, there’s a third new Winslet project at HBO in the works. That would make sense, considering the actress scored a big win with the network with “Mare of Easttown,” and her collaboration with Haynes, “Mildred Pierce.”
As you might expect, release details about both of these projects are still unknown at this time, but both are going to be near the top of our Most Anticipated lists in the next couple of years.
