The Marvels Release Date Is Delayed as New Cosmic Poster Is Released.

Jun 2, 2023

With only three movies being released in 2023, fans have been waiting for their first look at this summer’s The Marvels, the sequel to Captain Marvel, and a number of Disney+ MCU shows. Now a new poster has arrived with the disappointing news that fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the movie, which is currently scheduled to arrive on November 10, 2023. This seems to fit with the ongoing changes around the amount of Marvel Studios’ output and the need for longer post-production times. Check out the poster below.

The Marvels is one of the movies that has been shuffled around the MCU’s schedule a few times. While the Brie Larson-led sequel was initially expected to arrive in February, it was later swapped out with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. While the changes were partly down to post-Covid filming delays, The Marvels’ main issue seemed to be linked directly to the delayed Disney+ series Secret Invasion, which appears to be intricately linked to the movie.

While there are still many questions about The Marvels, the story will see its three female stars becoming caught up in a mind-bending adventure as they find their positions in the universe being constantly swapped with each other, similar to how Brie Larson’s Carol ended up in the bedroom of Kamala Khan at the end of Ms. Marvel.

Can The Marvels Defy Online Backlash and Be a Box Office Smash?

When Captain Marvel arrived in cinemas in 2019, Brie Larson became the subject of plenty of online backlash from trolls who called into question Larson’s physique, her acting ability, and in some cases, the simple fact that she is a woman in a world that, at the time, was dominated by male superheroes. However, despite the movie being review-bombed by people who hadn’t even seen it, Captain Marvel breezed past the $1 billion mark, and Larson’s place in the MCU was assured going forward.

Similarly, the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series gained its own wave of criticism from “fans” who complained about the MCU “going woke,” and despite the series gaining some of the highest Rotten Tomatoes scores of any MCU show to date, that didn’t fade away throughout the show’s run.

Now The Marvels brings these two characters together in one movie, which had already brought out some of the same online comments even before the first trailer arrived. But, like its predecessors, it is very unlikely that any amount of online backlash against The Marvels will result in the movie being anything other than a box office success, as even movies like Eternals and Thor: Ragnarok, which reviewers slaughtered for both valid and irrelevant reasons, managed to pull in large audience numbers.

The Marvels will star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Additionally, Zawe Ashton will play the movie’s villain, while the rest of the cast includes Park Seo-joon, Saagar Shaikh, Mohan Kapur, and Zenobia Shroff. The Marvels is now scheduled for release on November 10, 2023.
