Believer Set Revealed in Haunting BTS Image

Jun 6, 2023

A first-look set photo from The Exorcist: Believer reveals director David Gordon Green in a family home, bearing strange symbols on the floor.

The Exorcist: Believer’s set has been revealed in a new image. The film, which is due in theaters on October 13, is the latest entry in the film franchise that began with the Oscar-winning 1973 classic The Exorcist and has since spawned two sequels, a linked pair of prequels, and two seasons of a television spinoff. Believer, which reteams directed David Gordon Green and production company Blumhouse, is intended to be the first of a new trilogy in the vein of Green’s Halloween legacy sequel trilogy that ran from 2018 through 2022.

In a recent email newsletter, Blumhouse (via Bloody Disgusting) shared an official behind-the-scenes image from the new Exorcist legacy sequel.

The image reveals David Gordon Green on a set that appears to be a dining room in a family home. On the floor is a symbolic circle with supernatural significance.

Everything This Image Could Reveal About The Exorcist: Believer

Based on the image, the circle on the floor is likely being used by the titular exorcist to help dispel the demon at the center of the new film. However, its presence in a family dining room (seemingly connected to a living room) could have huge implications for the new film’s plot. The original Exorcist film had the possessed girl Regan MacNeil confined to her bedroom, a location that has been repeated throughout the Exorcist sequels during exorcism sequences.

Moving an exorcism out of the bedroom could reveal that the sequel intends to push beyond the constraints of previous entries and spread a more mobile supernatural menace even further. This more expansive vision for the franchise has been corroborated by The Exorcist: Believer footage that was recently screened at CinemaCon. That clip package revealed that the new film would revolve around multiple child possessions, taking place in a relatively short span of time.

The Exorcist: Believer will still focus on one family led by a desperate patriarch played by Leslie Odom Jr. His character will approach the original character Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn reprising her role) when one of his daughters shows signs of possession. Whether or not this image shows the home of this particular family remains unknown.
