Netflix’s The Witcher just unleashed a new clip from its upcoming third season. It’s got everything fans would ever want for Geralt of Rivia! It has sword. It has sorcery. And it has the whole Witcher gang settling down?

The video released recently offers fans an intriguing glimpse into the lives of its central trio: Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Ciri sourced from a Redanian Intelligence tweet. It has a scene where they seem to be embracing a serene family existence. This is quite a departure from the bloody monster-slaying and high-stakes politics we’ve seen so far. The first episode of season 3 seems to show our heroes attempting to carve out a peaceful life amidst the chaos of the Continent.

From the clip, we see that the season’s narrative will follow Andrzej Sapkowski’s second novel in The Witcher saga, “Time of Contempt”. It’s a story that sees every powerful entity across the Continent vying to capture the young princess Ciri, while Geralt and Yennefer are resolute in their mission to shield her​​.

The clip starts with an idyllic montage: Ciri and Yennefer ice-skating, Geralt watching them with fondness from a distance, Ciri getting a piggyback ride from the White Wolf, and the three of them sharing laughter around a dinner table. However, this semblance of tranquility is soon disrupted as Yennefer begins to guide Ciri in harnessing her mystical abilities, and a sinister whispering voice along with creepy visions shatters their peaceful respite​​.

The series wants to start of with the promise that the main characters can find solace in their newly formed family that they found in each other. They’ve taken refuge in the snowy mountains to escape from the monarchs, mages, beasts, and the Wild Hunt, all of whom are trying to capture Ciri. However, the montage shows that their tranquil life is short-lived, as Yennefer’s training of Ciri’s powers ultimately spirals into disaster​​.

Yennefer, trusted with Ciri’s magical education, leads her and Geralt to the secure fortress of Aretuza, hoping to explore Ciri’s dormant powers further. But, instead of enlightenment, they find themselves thrust into a battlefield rife with political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. This development only highlights the underlying tension of the clip, signifying that their peaceful days are a calm before an inevitable storm.

Henry Cavill’s last season for The Witcher will be divided into two parts. Fans were promised that it’s going to be a hell of a ride and the first part is due this coming June 29. Cavill is set to be replaced by Liam Hemsworth in season 4. This adds an extra layer of anticipation for fans to see how Cavill concludes his portrayal of the iconic Witcher​.
