Who Wants To Be A Millennial? Featured, Reviews Film Threat

Jun 27, 2023

DANCES WITH FILMS 2023 REVIEW! Things are tough out there, and as the Millennial generation has reached the age of adulthood, everything is way too expensive for those who have not chosen the influencer path. Comedian/host Matt “TK” Devine spotlights Millennials who have found innovative and extraordinary ways to survive in the cold, cruel world in Who Wants To Be A Millennial?.
Intended to be an ongoing series, in the pilot episode, Devine visits Charlie, one resident of the most unaffordable city in Los Angeles, Marina Del Rey (an excellent place for overpriced food). Marina Del Rey is part of unincorporated Los Angeles and is considered a port town. Its location, right along the Pacific Ocean, offers clean air and “clean” beaches and harbors over 5,000 boats.

“…visit other Millennials like him who hacked the system and found a livelihood in unexpected ways.”
Unable to find an inexpensive place to live, bartender Charlie was offered by one of his patrons the chance to purchase his boat as he was moving out of Los Angeles. By living on the ship, Charlie’s “rent” is less than $500, and he can set sail at any time he wants for a leisure tour. While it is not exactly legal, Charlie makes it work as the two explore the pros and cons of living on a boat.
Who Wants To Be A Millennial? is, quite frankly, a show I wish I were hosting. TK Devine is a friendly chap with a wickedly odd sense of humor. The premise offers the once “office-bound” Devine the chance to travel the U.S. and visit other Millennials like him who hacked the system and found a livelihood in unexpected ways. Future episodes spotlight teepee living, foraging for food in urban landscapes, dumpster diving, and tiny toolshed (I mean, home) living. Curiosity has me hooked, and I’ll admit, I’m a bit jealous. I need to see more.
The pilot episode of Devine’s Who Wants To Be A Millennial? offers a bit of fun and possibly inspiration for those who don’t exactly want to go down the traditional path of adulting.
Who Wants To Be A Millennial? screened at the 2023 Dances with Films.
