‘Full Circle,’ ‘Shadows,’ ‘Justified’ & More
Jul 5, 2023
As the Writers Strike continues and the summer season presses on, it will become increasingly interesting to see the state of the television landscape. For now, there are still some high-profile releases on deck. From highly anticipated and long-awaited second seasons for fan-favorite series such as “Good Omens” to summer mainstays like the continuously hilarious “What We Do in the Shadows,” July remains a busy release month.

While not highlighted, it’s also a big month for animated series. From the series premiere of the charmingly old-school “My Adventures With Superman,” to Disney’s “Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire” which highlights stories by African creators, to season four of DC’s “Harley Quinn,” to the return of “Futurama.”
“What We Do in the Shadows”
Five seasons deep, and “What We Do in the Shadows” remains one of the most consistently funny series on television. The finale of the season found vampire familiar turned bodyguard Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) asking to be turned into a vampire (by someone other than Kayvan Novak’s Nandor.) Season five will follow Guillermo as he tries to learn the ropes of how to be a vampire. Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, and Mark Proksch also star.
Release Date: Season 5 premieres July 12 on FX.
“Miracle Workers: End Times”
Of all the series out there, “Miracle Workers,” of all things, appears to be the last narrative man standing at TBS, which has otherwise cleared all the decks, canceled all its shows, pivoted to reality TV, and or placed its remaining series on HBO Max. An irreverent anthology comedy series, the fourth season, known as “Miracle Workers: End Times,” seems to pull a page out of “Mad Max: Fury Road” for its inspiration. In this edition, in a post-apocalyptic future, a wasteland warrior (Daniel Radcliffe) and a ruthless warlord (Geraldine Viswanathan) face the most dystopian nightmare of all, settling down in the suburbs. Of course, Steve Buscemi, Karan Soni, and Jon Bass all return. It’s a weird little series, and cheers to TBS for letting it stay that way.
Release Date: Season 4 premieres July 10 on TBS.
“The Afterparty”
Created by Christopher Miller, season two of the popular Apple TV series “The Afterparty” returns with a new cast and a new murder mystery. Season two takes place the day after a wedding and follows season one’s formula, with each episode following each guest’s perspective of the day before leading up to the murder in question. John Cho leads the season two cast, with Sam Richardson, Tiffany Haddish, and Zoë Chao reprising their roles. Also joining the new cast are Poppy Liu, Zach Woods, Paul Walter Hauser, Anna Konkle, and more.
Release Date: Season 2 premieres July 12 on Apple TV+.
