OK, “Secret Invasion” has been a bit hit and miss so far, with critics on the fence at best (including our review), but the series has had at least two significant things happen in it so far, and both have been unveiled in this new mid-season trailer. One, Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) longtime SHIELD partner, was shot and killed at the hands of the rebel Skrull alien Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir). Two, James “Rhodey” Rhodes (aka War Machine, played by Don Cheadle) was revealed to be a Skrull. How long has the Avenger/liaison to the current President been a Skrull? That we don’t know, but an Avenger IS a Skrull, which will undoubtedly have ramifications in the upcoming “Armor Wars” movie starring Cheadle, and it surely upends what we think we know about Rhodes and maybe even the Marvel Universe.
With two episodes of this espionage thriller left that has Nick Fury trusting no one as he rushes to avert chaos, Marvel has revealed this new trailer which teases a big finale (and maybe the fate of the real Rhodes and his whereabouts).
Here’s the official synopsis:
