Wednesday Has Been a Major Hit for Netflix

Netflix

Led by Scream and X star Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Wednesday explores the teenage years of the Addams Family sibling and how she adapts to high school. The series has amassed a stellar cast alongside Ortega, with Wednesday set to star Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, George Burcea as Lurch, Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, and Victor Dorobantu as Thing. The likes of Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Georgie Farmer, Hunter Doohan, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, Gwendoline Christie, and Christina Ricci make up the rest of the supporting cast.

Wednesday premiered on Netflix on November 23, and has since been met with glowing reviews from both critics and audiences alike. With much of the praise being directed at Jenna Ortega for her delightfully deadpan work as Wednesday Addams. Not only has the series been met with a positive response critically, Wednesday has also received huge viewing numbers.

Debuting at number one on Netflix in 83 countries, Wednesday now holds the record for most hours viewed in a week for an English-language Netflix series. Reaching a total of 341.2 million hours watched during its first week of release on the steaming platform, Wednesday has beaten other popular Netflix shows such as The Witcher, and beat the record previously held by the hugely successful Stranger Things.

Such success should ensure that a second season of Wednesday gets the greenlight, with showrunner Miles Millar having already teased what he would like to see happen in the continuing adventures of Wednesday Addams and her nightmarish family.
