David Tennant & Catherine Tate Return One More Time In 2023

Dec 26, 2022

The good Doctor is turning 60 next year, and you know what that means? BBC is rolling out the red carpet for a 60th-anniversary miniseries of special “Doctor Who” episodes, which will culminate in the long-awaited debut of the fifteenth person to take on the role.

And to build the buzz for the 60th-anniversary specials, BBC has released a new teaser showcasing the highly-anticipated return of David Tennant as the tenth (and fourteenth) Doctor. The multi-episode arc finds Tennant’s Doctor attempting to save his former companion, Donna Noble (a returning Catherine Tate) from an alien attack. The only problem is that Donna doesn’t have any memories of her time hanging out with the Doctor, so there is a bit of confusion, to put things lightly.
The “Doctor Who” franchise is no stranger to specials and anniversary celebrations. However, this one seems to be getting the fanbase incredibly excited. Not only does it see the returns of Tennant and Tate, but acclaimed writer-producer, Russell T. Davies returns to write the new series. This marks his return to “Doctor Who” after turning over the reins a little more than a decade ago.

Not only is Davies returning for the anniversary specials, but he is also serving as head writer for the upcoming season of “Doctor Who,” which will follow these specials and be the first in the history of new Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa. The young actor is the latest to take on the mantle of Doctor and is the first Black person to have the role.
The 60th-anniversary specials aren’t expected to arrive on BBC (and Disney+ outside of the UK) until later in 2023. You can watch the teaser below:
