The Flash Test Screenings Reportedly Rival The Dark Knight Trilogy
Dec 28, 2022
Despite major problems behind the scenes with its lead star, The Flash has been performing incredibly well with test audiences.
Warner Bros. Pictures
There has been a conundrum at Warner Bros. Discovery as execs figure out what to do with the upcoming release of The Flash. The movie’s lead star, Ezra Miller, has been plagued by negative press with one troublesome headline coming in after another. The actor’s personal issues and legal problems have cast a bit of a dark cloud over The Flash, given how we are living in an era with increased scrutiny over the personal lives of movie stars.
Canceling The Flash is not impossible, given how the company just controversially shelved Batgirl even with filming on that movie already completed. However, such a move might be throwing away a golden opportunity, as the potential seems to be high for The Flash to be a smash hit at the box office. Per The Hollywood Reporter, this is based on recent test screenings of the film, which are reportedly “some of the highest scores at test screenings since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight movies.” As The Dark Knight in particular is still considered by many fans to be the greatest comic book movie ever made, those scores are obviously very promising.

There’s a lot of excitement surrounding The Flash as it notably brings back Michael Keaton to reprise his role as Batman from the old Tim Burton movies. He won’t be the only Dark Knight in the film as Ben Affleck’s Batman will also be featured. The cast also includes Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdu as Nora Allen, and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. There are bound to be many surprises as well, with the multiverse aspect of the story allowing for many other characters from different film franchises to appear. We have seen a sample of this already with Miller appearing in the Arrowverse’s special crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths alongside Grant Gustin’s version of The Flash.

Ezra Miller Has Apologized and Is Seeking Treatment for Mental Health
Warner Bros. Pictures
Maybe seeing Batgirl getting the boot so close to release, even with its own Michael Keaton appearance, has gotten Ezra Miller to realize that The Flash could be in danger of a similar fate. Recently, Miller finally addressed their problematic behavior in a statement released to Variety. Miller stated that they were seeking treatment with the hopes of turning their life around.
“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller said. “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe, and productive stage in my life.”
The apology is the first step toward getting back into the good graces of the fans as well as the new brass at Warner Bros. Discovery. Couple that with The Flash performing well with test audiences, and the film’s odds of seeing its release, unlike Batgirl, are looking much better. As it stands, The Flash is currently set to premiere in theaters on June 23, 2023.
