Pom Klementieff Says She’s in Talks to Join James Gunn’s DCU

Oct 21, 2023

While James Gunn finished his work with the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, chances are he will continue to keep working with Pom Klementieff. In the MCU, Klementieff played the role of Mantis, one of the titular Guardians from Gunn’s films. Gunn is now fully committed to building the new DCU with Peter Safran for Warner Bros. and DC Studios, focusing on DC-based projects like Superman: Legacy. And it seems like he’s wanting to bring along some of his favorite performers, like Klementieff, for these new endeavors.

To promote her new Mission: Impossible film, Klementieff joined Vanessa Kirby for a new interview with The Movie Dweeb. During the conversation, Klementieff was asked if she has had conversations with Gunn about potentially joining the DCU. She reveals that she has in fact had these talks, revealing how Gunn even has one particular character in mind he wants for Klementieff. Of course, she’s not divulging which character that is, but she teases that it would be “really, really awesome.” She’d also be happy to take on another action-heavy role, which she’s comes to enjoy after her work in the MCU and Mission: Impossible franchise. As Klementieff says:

“I’m not going to tell you which character. No, we’ve been talking about it, and there’s one specific character that he’s thinking of, and I think it would be really, really awesome. And it would have [me] continue doing action too, so it’s exciting.”

Klementieff isn’t giving any other hints as to which character Gunn has in mind for her to play in the DCU, so now, it’s up to the fans to speculate until an official announcement is made. In any case, chances are we’ll see Klementieff becoming a part of that world soon enough, given the shared interest she has with continuing her work with Gunn. While it’s theoretically possible Mantis could pop back up in the MCU following Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it wouldn’t be under Gunn’s watch, as he’s no longer making Marvel movies at this time given his new commitments to the DCU. With that said, Klementieff hasn’t exactly shut the door on an MCU return, though she has “no clue” if it will happen.

“We don’t know what’s going to happen with the characters, if there’s going to be more movies, if we’re going to come back,” Klementieff told recently Esquire about the possibility. “We have no clue. Mantis is going to go riding and see what’s up.”

In any case, there’s plenty of opportunity to see Klementieff on the big screen. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still playing in movie theaters, while Klementieff can also be seen on the big screen when her next film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, is released on July 12, 2023.
