David S. Goyer’s Ambitious Sci-Fi Series Returns To Apple TV+ This Summer

Jan 4, 2023

The first season of “Foundation” was a somewhat surprising success for Apple TV+. Sure, it’s the long-awaited adaptation of a classic series of sci-fi novels. But “Foundation” isn’t “Star Wars.” It has more in common with “Dune” and the hard sci-fi that’s out that. That is to say, it’s not necessarily the type of show that everyone is going to love. Well, apparently enough people loved it, and “Foundation” is prepping for Season 2 coming later this year.

And as seen in the new “sneak peek” (aka trailer) at Season 2, “Foundation” seems to be going even bigger in its next batch of episodes. The series tells the story of the fall of the great Galactic Empire and a band of exiles who are desperate to try to rebuild some semblance of civilization.
The ensemble cast for the sci-fi series includes Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Terrence Mann, and Cassian Bilton. They’re joined by new faces for Season 2, including Isabella Laughland, Kulvinder Ghir, Sandra Yi Sencindiver, Ella-Rae Smith, Dimitri Leonidas, Ben Daniels, Holt McCallany, Rachel House, and Nimrat Kaur.

David S. Goyer is the showrunner of the series, which is based on the iconic novels by Isaac Asimov. Goyer has stated numerous times that he imagines the series covering eight seasons and 80 episodes. Obviously, in the world of streaming series getting canceled left and right, that seems awfully ambitious, but, to be fair, “Foundation” is about as ambitious as it can get.
“Foundation” Season 2 is expected to arrive sometime this summer. You can watch the sneak peek/teaser below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Based on Isaac Asimov’s award-winning stories, the monumental adaptation of “Foundation” chronicles a band of exiles on their unprecedented journey to rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire. Crucial individuals transcending space and time are faced with deadly crises, shifting loyalties and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity.
