Often, far after you’ve turned the TV off or left the movie theater, the thing that lingers longest about a film you’ve just seen is the tragedy of the character or characters that died in it. It’s heartbreaking to watch someone who you’ve spent a good chunk of time getting to know die on screen. And 2023 had its fair share of character deaths that are just too much to bear.
