Jan 5, 2023
Back in 2019, Apple TV+ jumped on the true crime craze with “Truth Be Told,” which stars Octavia Spencer as a podcaster out to prove a convicted murderer’s innocence. Critics didn’t like the series, but the show garnered enough views for another season in 2021. Now, “Truth Be Told” returns for Season 3, with Spencer on another grisly case.

Based on Kathleen Barber‘s novel of the same name, itself inspired by the hit podcast “Serial,” “Truth Be Told” centers on Spencer’s Poppy Parnell, a journalist who runs a successful true-crime podcast. In the new season, Poppy teams up with Gabrielle Union‘s local school principal to chase down leads about the disappearance of several young girls. Is a sex trafficking ring behind the missing girls?
Mekhi Phifer, David Lyons, Ron Cephas Jones, Merle Dandridge, and Tracie Thoms return for the third season of “Truth Be Told.” Other returning cast members include Haneefah Wood, Michala Faith Lee, and Tomi Roman. Along with Union, Ricardo Chavira is a newcomer this season. Maisha Closson serves as the showrunner for Season 3.
Will “Truth Be Told” continue to please true-crime fans with its third season? Find out when the show’s new season premieres on Apple TV+ on January 20, followed by one episode premiering weekly through March 24. Watch a trailer for the new season below.
