According to a release from the studio, the brief official synopsis is as follows:
A woman pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mom, but soon, her domesticity takes a surreal turn.
“Nightbitch” is expected to be a player this awards season and debut at a major fall film festival.
Heller previously collaborated with Searchlight on “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” which earned stars Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant Oscar nominations. Her other directing credits include “The Diary of a Teenage Girl” and “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”
Adams is a six-time Oscar nominee, and on a short list of fan favorites, many are hoping will take home their first statue sooner rather than later. Her last film was the “Enchanted” sequel “Disenchanted,” which hit Disney+ in Nov 2022. She last appeared on the big screen in theaters with “Dear Evan Hansen” in 2021. Her Oscar-nominated roles include “Junebug,” “Doubt,” “The Fighter,” “The Master,” “American Hustle,” and “Vice.” Other highlights on her resume include “Man of Steel,” “Her,” “The Muppets,” “Nocturnal Animals,” and “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” among others.
“Nightbitch” also stars Scoot McNairy, Zoe Chao, Ella Thomas, and Mary Holland. The film is based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Rachel Yoder.
Scoot McNairy is a SAG Award and Independent Spirt Award winner whose credits include “Argo, ““12 Years a Slave,” “Gone Girl,” “Black Sea,” “Our Brand is Crisis,” “A Quiet Place II,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” “C’mon C’mon,” and “Blonde.” He’s also known for his roles on the prestige television series “Halt and Catch Fire” and “Narcos: Mexico.” He’ll appear later this year in the Blumhouse horror flick “Speak No Evil” opposite James McAvoy. Currently, McNairy is in production on another Searchlight production, James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic, “A Complete Unknown. “
“Nightbitch” opens in limited release on Dec. 6.
