Based on CJ Skuse‘s 2017 novel of the same name, Purnell stars in the series as Rhiannon Lewis, a young woman most people wouldn’t cast a second glance at. But after she’s pushed over the edge, Rhiannon realizes (along with everyone else) that she’s not a pushover, but a force to be reckoned with.
Here’s an official synopsis of “Sweetpea,” courtesy of Sky and Starz:
Sweetpea follows Rhiannon Lewis, who doesn’t make much of an impression – people walk past her in the street without a second glance, she’s continually overlooked for a promotion at work, the guy she likes won’t commit, and her dad is really sick. But when she’s pushed over the edge and loses control, the wallflower is gone, replaced by a young woman capable of anything.
“Sweetpea” also stars Nicôle Lecky, Jon Pointing, Calam Lynch, and Leah Harvey. Jeremy Swift and Dustin Demri-Burns also star, with Luke McGibney rounding out the main cast.
Kirstie Swain adapts Skuse’s novel for the six-episode series with Krissie Ducker, Laura Jayne Tunbridge, and Selina Lim. See-Saw Films and fanboy produce it in association with Sky Studios. Executive producers on the series include Purnell, Ella Jones, Swain, Walters, Helen Gregory, Iain Canning, and Emile Sherman. Zorana Piggott serves as lead producer. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handles “Sweetpea” for its international sales.
