Harrison Ford Gives Very Harrison Ford Response to Captain America 4 Questions
Aug 6, 2024
While the rest of the heroes in Captain America: Brave New World get to wear tailor-made superhero costumes and fight with incredible props, Harrison Ford has been forced to don motion-capture pajamas to bring the Red Hulk to life. Following Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) as he dons the Captain America mantel, Ford takes over from the late William Hurt as Thadeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, a.k.a. Red Hulk, in the new sequel. And in true Harrison Ford style, he gave his honest opinion about the process.
Speaking to Variety at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Harrison Ford revealed the truth about his experience playing Red Hulk on set. Ford, who’s known for his brutally honest interview answers, said that playing Red Hulk required him to get over any kind of embarrassment about “hulking out” during shooting. Although, he didn’t quite say it as softly as that:
“It took not caring. It took being an idiot for money, which I’ve done before. I don’t disparage it, I’m just saying you have to do certain things that, normally, your own mother would not want you to do, or your acting coach if you had one.”
Captain America: Brave New World Captain America: Brave New World (formerly titled New World Order) marks Sam Wilson’s first MCU big-screen appearance as Steve Rogers’ successor after receiving the suit and shield in Phase 4’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie returns as the titular Avenger alongside Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Carl Lumby as Isaiah Bradley, and Tim Blake Nelson as The Incredible Hulk’s former ally Samuel Sterns. Harrison Ford makes his MCU debut replacing the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross.Release Date February 14, 2025 Director Julius Onah
As uncomfortably hilarious as Ford’s answer was, he didn’t leave it on such a dour note. Ford followed his response with genuine love for having worked on the film, and he couldn’t believe the incredible reaction he got from the audience during Marvel’s Hall H presentation. Ford continued:
“But it’s fun, and I enjoyed it. I had a great time, and I’m delighted at the response that we got today with the trailer.”
Harrison Ford Is Taking No Prisoners at SDCC
Harrison Ford has been asked about the minute details of the nerdy franchises he’s starred in since he first played Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope way back in 1977. While the actor channeled his media training towards the start of his career, it’s safe to say he’s gotten a little bit tired of being asked certain questions about Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and now the MCU.

The Variety interview wasn’t the first time Ford hilariously shot down a question at SDCC. After Marvel’s panel, Ford was asked about the Serpent Society (the villains in Captain America: Brave New World), and, more specifically, which of his characters – Indiana Jones or Thunderbolt Ross – deals with snakes the best. Ford was having none of it, and likened the question to being asked “Who shot first?” for the last 45 years. The actor responded:
“I’ve always treated these questions with both the utmost respect and complete disdain. I will not answer that stupid question. But thank you for the opportunity.”
The appearance of Thunderbolt Ross in Brave New World will lead into the MCU’s following movie, Thunderbolts. Unlike the morally upstanding Avengers, the Thunderbolts are comprised of Marvel’s biggest anti-heroes, including Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen).
