Created by Slaughter, Liz Heldens, and Daniel T. Thomsen, Will Trent premiered its first episode on ABC on Jan. 3. The show has found instant success, topping the charts as ABC’s most-watched series debut since Big Sky in 2020. Will Trent has also been named ABC’s No. 1 series debut on linear platforms this season in both total viewers and adults 18-49, tied with The Rookie: Feds.
Along with Rodríguez (The Wire, The Affair), the series stars Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner (The Wire, Body of Proof), Erika Christensen (Traffic, The Case for Christ) as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson (American Soul, This Is Us) as Faith Mitchell, and Jake McLaughlin (The Day the Earth Stood Still, Quantico) as Michael Ormewood.

Will Trent Has Been an Insant Hit for ABC
The official synopsis for Will Trent is as follows:
Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling “Will Trent” series, Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. But now, determined to use his unique point of view to make sure no one is abandoned like he was, Will Trent has the highest clearance rate in the GBI.
The first book in the original series was published in 2006. The character would go on to appear in several more books in the series, up to 2020’s The Silent Wife. You can find out more about the original book series at Karin Slaughter’s website.
The next episode of Will Trent, dubbed “My Stupid Detective Brain,” will premiere on Jan. 24, 2023 at 7 p.m. PT on ABC. You can also stream the series on Hulu.
