Diego Luna Says ‘Andor’ Season 2 Will Make You See ‘Rogue One’ As A “Different Film”
Aug 15, 2024
After one amazing season of Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars” series “Andor,” itself a prequel spin-off to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” the series is set to come back in 2025. What’s in store for season two? Well, for one, we essentially know it all leads up to the events of ‘Rogue One,’ but writer/showrunner Tony Gilroy is a genius at reverse engineering prequels and making them still feel relevant and meaningful.
The series is essentially the origin story of Cassian Andor and also a preview of how the Rebel Alliance was formed.

In season two, we know that Andor (Diego Luna) is joined by more of the cast of ‘Rogue One’ include Alan Tudyk as the reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO and Ben Mendelsohn as the Imperial Director Krennic. Also returning for season two is Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgård, Genevieve O’Reilly, Denise Gough, and Forest Whitaker as the rogue rebel mercenary Saw Gerrera.
But things still might surprise you even if we know the events of ‘Rogue One’ and the fate of many of its characters. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, post-D23, where a teaser for the 2025 series was shown, Diego Luna said the events of season two will essentially make you permanently rethink the way you see “Rogue One,” which suggests something bold.
“I think people watching ‘Rogue One,’ after watching season 2, are going to see a different film,” Luna said. “Everything will be signified differently knowing what had to happen for K-2 to be there. It’s going to make you witness the journey of Rogue One in a different way, I think. And not just with K-2, but with many other characters. I think it’ll be really cool.”
Why is Luna talking about K-2 so much and how can he alter the way we see ‘Rogue One’? That’s unclear, but the actor says the character is an important part of the story and not just fan service.
“You’re going to see why K-2 is so important in ‘Rogue One’,” Luna teased “and how does he get to be such an important character for the Rebellion.”
Luna is also sparking to the ideas of marketing opportunities. “I’m sure someone from Lucasfilm and Disney will give us the opportunity to watch season 2 and then go straight to watch the film on a big screen with tons of popcorn and friends around,” he laughed.
“Andor” is not expected on Disney+ until early or mid-2025.
