How You Should Watch a Movie!
Feb 1, 2023
After completing my first-ever visit to a Showcase Luxe cinema only a week ago I somehow ended up in the last cinema left on my ‘to visit’ list so here is my Odeon Luxe review.
Odeon Luxe combines the comfort of recliner chairs with huge cinema screens and an all-around exclusive experience.
With my ticket in had to go and watch M3gan (which has been long overdue) I walked into the cinema and instantly noticed the sheer size of the screen, it felt like an IMAX screen without the IMAX technology installed. The seats were lovely and plush and balconies separated the rows so you didn’t have to look at anyone in front of you, it was just you and the screen.
With a nice folding table and some expensive nachos in hand (they were lovely by the way) I parked my bum cheeks on the Odeon Luxe cinema seats for the first time and instantly said “These aren’t as comfy as Showcase Luxe” and that still rings true.
The seats felt quite hard in comparison to the Showcase seats and the recliner settings were the simple back and forward motion that you’d get at Vue although the reclining angle was far sharper on the Odeon Luxe seats.
Odeon Luxe finally showed me what Dolby Atmos was capable of though as the sound quality at this particular cinema (Birmingham) was phenomenal, I haven’t heard a better sound system in a UK cinema than this one, it sounded absolutely phenomenal.
One thing that I will say about Odeon Luxe is that £20 for a ticket is just ridiculous. You’re getting comfier seats and a nicer-looking cinema but as a whole that absolutely does not justify an experience almost identical to Vue for £12 less and you’re paying £8 for a bigger screen and better sound. If that’s worth it for you then go right ahead but I thought £20 for a ticket that wasn’t IMAX or 3D was ridiculous.
If you can financially recover from the extortionate ticket price then you can embrace in all of the luxuries that Odeon has to offer. The cinemas look beautiful and really upmarket and it’s absolutely how you should watch a movie but for £12 less, you can get a very similar experience.
I’ll leave that decision up to you!
