Nick Cannon On Insecurities In Mariah Carey Marriage
For a reminder, Nick and Mariah secretly tied the knot in 2008 after starring together in the music video for her song, “Bye Bye.” Three years later, the couple became parents to twins Moroccan and Monroe.
In 2014, Nick and Mariah announced their divorce. And now, eight years later, the Wild ’n Out star is looking back on the insecurities he faced while married to “the biggest star in the world.”
Appearing on the Ray Daniels Presents podcast on Oct. 24, Nick recalled his and Mariah’s different levels of stardom when they met, noting that the singer was “already in a different stratosphere” by that point in her career.
Reflecting on this, Nick said that Mariah’s success caused him to struggle with his identity, saying: “I would lay up at night thinking, like, ‘Is this who I am? Am I Mariah’s man? Is that what my life is supposed to be?’”
Candidly, the 44-year-old said his insecurities only worsened after Moroccan and Monroe were born in 2011 as he began considering the “hierarchy” of their family unit.
Interestingly, Nick made it clear that he and Mariah never argued about this during their marriage, even when he was “struggling.”
In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the singer said that her divorce from Nick was “tough” but that they will “always be family.”
Since their split, Nick has welcomed 10 more children with five different women. In August, he made headlines for saying that he and Mariah should get back together — before later clarifying that a rekindling is likely not in the cards.
So, what do we make of Nick’s comments — do we respect his honesty, or is it just another example of fragile masculinity? Let us know in the comments. You can watch his appearance on the Ray Daniels Presents podcast here.
