Agatha’s Death in the Agatha All Along Finale
Episode 8 opens up right after Lilia Calderu’s (Patti LuPone) death, with a conversation between Agatha and Rio. The pair discuss Billy’s reincarnation abilities and how his existence causes an imbalance in nature by defying the natural order of things. Agatha questions Rio’s hesitancy in taking Billy when she realizes that Billy could inhabit another body and be out of Death’s reach. Rio reveals that Billy has to be willing to forfeit his life. Agatha proceeds to promise Rio that she’ll convince Billy to do so. Once the trio, Agatha, Billy, and Jennifer Kale, reach the end of The Witch’s Road, there’s a confrontation between Agatha and Rio.
Since Agatha failed to deliver Billy to Death, Agatha now has to take his place. Agatha’s power isn’t restored, so she’s defenseless against Rio’s power until Wiccan shows up to intervene. In an unexpected move, Billy restores Agatha’s power using his magic, and the battle intensifies. Agatha knows that no power can defeat Death and appears to betray Billy by deciding to give up his life in exchange for hers. Billy responds telepathically and reminds her of Nicholas, her son, and Agatha has a change of heart. With a final kiss from Death, Agatha meets her end. Or does she?
One Door Closes, Another One Opens in Agatha All Along
Agatha isn’t quite ready to abandon this plane as she returns as a ghost in the second part of the finale. She appears before Billy and confirms what he discovered about the Road and the powerful magic he possesses. As the Scarlet Witch’s son, Billy has the same ability to create alternate realities, so The Witch’s Road and its trials were subconsciously controlled by him and reflect what he believed the Road is. Billy is distraught at the knowledge that his power played a role in the deaths of Alice Wu-Gulliver, Sharon Davis, and Lilia Calderu. Agatha tells Billy this is what being a witch means, and Billy is reluctant to accept this idea.

Billy storms to Agatha’s home and attempts to banish her spirit from the realm of the living. As she pleads for her spirit to remain in the world, Agatha reveals that she isn’t ready to see Nicholas in the afterlife and face him after the events that occurred in “Mother, Maiden, Crone.” This genuine moment is all Billy needs to trust Agatha and her intentions to help him. Agatha stays as a guide for Billy, similar to Marvel Comics, where Agatha becomes a mentor for Wanda. The episode ends with Billy and Agatha embarking on a journey to find Tommy, who Billy managed to reincarnate in another body.
What This Means for the MCU Moving Forward
While it’s still uncertain if the creators are planning Season 2 of the series, this finale is definitely setting up the story for the next phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s clear that Tommy Maximoff will debut in the next project and that Agatha and Billy will work together to find him. Unlike other Marvel projects, there’s no post-credit scene to indicate where fans will see the iconic duo next, but they know they will be together in some capacity.

Fans also know that a second WandaVision spinoff is in the works at Marvel studios. The untitled series will follow White Vision (Paul Bettany) as he navigates the confusion and fear of his restored memories and the events that occurred with the Scarlet Witch. This would be a perfect opportunity to reunite three-quarters of the Maximoff family and hopefully lead into a Scarlet Witch film where fans will see the epic return of Wanda Maximoff. Agatha All Along is streaming in its entirety on Disney+.
