Aldis Hodge Didn’t Know About Black Adam’s Superman Cameo Until the Last Minute

Home Movie News Aldis Hodge Didn’t Know About Black Adam’s Superman Cameo Until the Last Minute

Aldis Hodge may have been one of the stars of Black Adam, but nobody filled him in on the post-credit scene until shortly before the movie’s release.

Warner Bros.

That big cameo in Black Adam was kept secret from most everyone who wasn’t directly involved. In the superhero movie, which has been in development for several years, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stars as the titular anti-hero. Also featured in the film as one of the Justice Society of America members is Aldis Hodge as the superhero Hawkman.

But just because Aldis is one of the main stars doesn’t mean he was kept privy to the film’s biggest secrets. In a new interview with THR, Hodge spoke about the surprise appearance of Henry Cavill reprising his Man of Steel role and teasing a future battle with The Rock’s Black Adam. Even though he’s in the movie, Hodge says he didn’t even know about the cameo until “pretty close to the premiere.” From the interview:

“They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn’t know until maybe a day or two before the premiere. So they kept it that close.”

Even during production, there hadn’t been any talk whatsoever that he’d heard about potential plans to include Superman, from The Rock or anyone else. That’s not to say he didn’t hear some of the rumors along the way, but Hodge says he prefers not knowing for sure, as it made the cameo more of a surprise.

“There was no talk of bringing back Superman and any of that. They’ve got to keep those things in a super vault, so all you can do is focus on trying to make Black Adam the best it can be. So you do hear things and you get ideas, but nothing is ever confirmed or really fully said. And honestly, I dig that because it was a huge surprise for me, and I love it that we got to experience it together with the audience. The fans have been trying to get Henry Cavill back in the red and blue for a minute, and D.J. was the perfect person to bring him back. It just doesn’t get any better.”

Aldis Hodge Wants to See a Superman and Black Adam Battle

The Rock had been teasing a Superman battle with Black Adam even before the movie came out. Hodge previously spoke with Variety about the possibility of seeing Cavill’s Superman and The Rock’s Black Adam duking it out on-screen. Hodge suggested that this is something that could take a trilogy to pull off as it would be such an epic battle that a proper build-up would be needed.

“I honestly would like to see a build-up to that if that was to ever come to pass,” Hodge explained. “I wanna see at least, you know, two to three movies build up to it. And then in that final film, that final showdown, at least 80% of that movie has to be them fighting it out.”

Black Adam is playing in movie theaters. With the film performing well at the box office, coupled with the positive response to Cavill’s return, chances are we’ll see the two back on-screen soon enough.
