Jason Sudeikis Returns For The (Maybe) Final Season Of Apple TV+’s Feel-Good Comedy

As Timothée Chalamet recently attested, it’s been a boom time for Apple TV+. In the two years since the height of the pandemic, the streaming service has more than doubled its subscriber count and built a library of content rivaling competitors like Netflix and HBO Max. But although it may be hard to remember, there was a time when Apple TV+ was the scrappy upstart in an unlikely new arena…kind of like the titular protagonist of its first breakout hit series “Ted Lasso.”

Now, with two solid and surprisingly successful seasons under its belt, “Ted Lasso” is back for its triumphant final act. Well, potentially the final act. The upcoming third season will reportedly be its last, with writer and cast member Brett Goldstein confirming as much last year and saying, “It was planned as three [and] we’re writing it like that.”
The final season will again feature Jason Sudeikis in his now-iconic lead role as an American college football coach turned English soccer manager, along with series regulars Goldstein, Juno Temple, Hannah Waddingham, Toheeb Jimoh, Brendan Hunt, Phil Dunster, and Nick Mohammed.

The end of Season 2 saw Lasso’s squad AFC Richmond promoted back into the Premier League after suffering relegation at the end of Season 1. Though precise plot details are murky, a first-look photo released in January revealed Sudeikis in a face-off with Nate (Mohammed), Lasso’s former assistant and now rival manager. It’s probably safe to assume Season 3 will culminate in a showdown between Lasso’s team and West Ham United, the club purchased by series antagonist Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head) and managed by Nate.
Meanwhile, series co-creator Bill Lawrence hasn’t wasted time moving on to his next project: a new Apple TV+ series entitled “Shrinking” which he co-wrote with Goldstein and Jason Segel.
The premiere for Season 3 of “Ted Lasso” is slated for March 15. In the meantime, check out the trailer below:
