Netflix’s ‘Bridgerton’ Prequel Series Arrives In May

Feb 14, 2023

Nowadays, it’s no longer enough to let a massive series exist on its own. No matter if you’re a streamer, a cable network, or just a regular network, hugely popular series are consistently spun off into franchises. There are the many different “NCIS” shows or, more recently, the constant expansion of “Yellowstone,” as examples. And Netflix is doing it too, with the first spinoff of the popular “Bridgerton” series, titled “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.”

As seen in the teaser for ‘Queen Charlotte,’ the series serves as a prequel to the main “Bridgerton” show and focuses on the early life of the title character. Following Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, the series continues the minor political intrigue of the original with also a healthy amount of that love story goodness that makes fans go gaga constantly.
The cast for the ‘Bridgerton’ prequel series includes Golda Rosheuvel, Adjoa Andoh, Ruth Gemmell,  India Amarteifio, Michelle Fairley, Corey Mylchreest, Arsema Thomas, Sam Clemmett, Freddie Dennis, Richard Cunningham, Tunji Kasim, Rob Maloney, Cyril Nri, and Hugh Sachs. As with the mothership series, Shonda Rhimes is a major force in the prequel, serving as creator and executive producer.
“Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” debuts on Netflix on May 4. You can watch the teaser below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Centered on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.
