Home Movie News Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Trailer – G1 OG Mirage Is The New Bumblebee

The latest Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer arrives during the Super Bowl, spotlighting more exciting action from the Beast Wars adaptation.

The world is being introduced to a new kind of war with the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Super Bowl trailer. Largely inspired by the Beast Wars storyline that followed Transformers: Generation 1, as well as being a sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee, the new film will revolve around human archeologists Noah and Elena, played by Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, who discover the existence of the Autobots and their battles surrounding three other Transformers races, the Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is being helmed by Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. on a script penned by Joby Harold, who also developed the story, Darnell Metayer, Josh Peters and Erich and Jon Hoeber.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Keeping the studio tradition of releasing major title footage during the game, Paramount has released a new Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer during Super Bowl LVII.

The video offers a deeper look at the film adaptation of the Beast Wars storyline, including the arrival of the Maximals and Terrorcons, namely Ron Perlman’s Optimus Primal, Peter Dinklage’s Scourge, Pete Davidson’s Mirage and Michelle Yeoh’s Airazor, among others.

Who Is Mirage? Transformers 7’s New Autobot Hero Explained

While the first footage for the film did feature shots of the character, the new Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer offers the best look yet at Mirage, including his being voiced by Saturday Night Live alum Pete Davidson. Mirage’s introduction to the live-action Transformers franchise marks an interesting expansion into the Generation 1 era, with the character best known for appearing in the 1980s Hasbro cartoon, and the various Marvel comic books. The last time Mirage was actually seen on screen was in Transformers: War for Cybertron, appearing in all three chapters of the Netflix show.

Introduced in the comics just prior to the cartoon, Mirage was best-known in the Transformers franchsie for his ability to create illusions to either rend himself invisible or confuse his foes. Before the infamous war on his homeplanet, Mirage was a member of Cyberton’s high-class society, initially not even agreeing with the side of the Autobots when the war broke out, though finding himself having to take a side. Throughout the various Transformers storylines, Mirage was found to even be questioning the Autobots’ methods, freuently landing him the label of a Decepticon sympathizer, despite his clear loyalty to Optimus Prime.

Both Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailers have indicated the film will retain Mirage’s ability to create illusions to deceive his foes, as seen during a car chase with New York City Police, in which he creates copies of himself to help he and Anthony Ramos’ Noah escape. With Pete Davidson voicing the new Autobot hero, it’s unclear whether he will retain the same upper-class, high-horse mentality from the cartoons, or if he will get a personality overhaul to better suit the comedian. Only time will tell when Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hits theaters on June 9.
