‘Jurassic World Dominion’s DeWanda Wise Could Storm Into the MCU, Rumor Claims
Feb 14, 2025
DeWanda Wise might be taking flight again, but this time it could be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the beloved X-Men character Storm. The actress portrayed pilot Kayla Watts in 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, but if the rumor mill is any indication, the MCU might have its sights set on casting Wise as the fan-favorite Mutant Ororo Munroe.
Please remember that until Marvel Studios confirms the casting report posted to X, formerly Twitter, by scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the news of Wise possibly taking up Storm’s electrifying mantle is strictly a rumor. Now, the social media post succinctly reads as follows:
DeWanda Wise is now being considered for the role of Storm in the X-Men reboot.
Halle Berry had the honor of playing Storm in the original X-Men films which started their successful run in the year 2000. Berry then reprised the role for director Bryan Singer’s immensely popular X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) before Alexandra Shipp took over as a part of the younger cast members in their third film, X-Men: Apocalypse. Should Wise be chosen to continue Ororo Munroe’s big-screen legacy, she will be older than both Berry (33) and Shipp (24) were when they started playing the character.
DeWanda Wise Would Make an Excellent Addition to the MCU
40-year-old DeWanda Wise would make an excellent addition to the MCU’s upcoming X-Men team, especially considering her standout performances in projects like Imaginary, Poolman, and Three Women. Wise’s acting range would give Ororo Munroe (Storm) much-needed gravitas — a Marvel Comics character who first appeared 50 years ago in the pages of Giant-Size X-Men No. 1 (1975).
The Marvel Cinematic Universe went through a dangerous creative lull where quality is concerned, following the multi-billion-dollar success of Avengers: Endgame and the final entry of Phase Three, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). However, the success of last summer’s blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine has seemingly rejuvenated the franchise, and there’s a real sense of anticipation for the three big-screen titles scheduled for release in 2025.

Wise spoke to MovieWeb about her hopes to tackle Blumhouse again in the future and what it was like working with director Chris Pine on Poolman.
Most of the hype revolves around the debut (July 25) of Marvel’s First Family in the MCU. In fact, the excitement for this summer’s long-awaited The Fantastic Four: First Steps led to the film’s official teaser receiving over 200 million views in 24 hours! However, before Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal) and his team take on Galactus, there’s the little matter of Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) standing up to President “Thunderbolt” Ross (Harrison Ford) on Valentine’s Day.
Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters on Feb. 14, and the new Marvel flick features the highly anticipated arrival of Ross’ fiery alter ego, Red Hulk, in the MCU. Plus, as teased during Super Bowl LIX, the Thunderbolts* team assembles in theaters on May 2. So, there are plenty of superhero adventures to enjoy before the X-Men receive their own standalone film. Now, whether DeWanda Wise ends up playing Storm is still anyone’s guess, and the fans shouldn’t forget that Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington might find his way into the MCU, too, but as an X-Men villain.
