Brandon Sklenar Talks “Nova” Rumors & Batman Fan-Casting

Feb 18, 2025

From a forthcoming interview about Paramount+‘s “1923,” actor Brandon Sklenar has briefly talked to The Playlist on the circulating rumors that he’s being courted for the lead in Marvel’s cosmic-superhero Disney+ series “Nova” (as the Richard Rider incarnation) and is expressing a vocal interest in playing Batman for the new DCU in “The Brave & The Bold” saying it would be a “dream role” for him (Sklenar’s “It Ends With Us” co-star Blake Lively once promoting the fan-casting).

“Yeah, I heard about that. It was news to me. I think I was supposed to meet with [Marvel Studios/Marvel Television] at some point here…with [Kevin] Feige. We’ll see that would be cool,” Sklenar said when asked directly by our own Rodrigo Perez about those “Nova” casting rumors.

The actor then retorted with a desire to tackle the DCU version of Batman, “I’ve seen a bunch of fan-casting for this Batman thing [“The Bave & The Bold”] and that’s very interesting to me, I love Batman. That would be a dream, for sure. But we’ll see what happens, I’m built for it.” While his final sentiment would give us the impression either role would likely have to be a good fit, “It would have to be the right thing at the right time.”

Most DC Comics diehards would be already familiar that filmmaker Andy Muschietti (“The Flash”) had been originally attached to direct “The Brave & The Bold” back in 2023, but has been temporarily busy shooting the HBO prequel horror series “Welcome To Derry,” which is an expansion of his previous “IT” movies and the Pennywise lore.

“The Brave & The Bold” would see Bruce Wayne taking on a fatherly role as the version of the Dark Knight’s iconic sidekick Robin expected to be in the film his biological son, Damian Wayne.

“Nova” of course would be seen by fans as a semi-offshoot of “Guardians of The Galaxy” after the Nova Corps. of the alien planet Xandar (Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz playing memorable members of the cosmic law enforcement collective) had been seemingly destroyed by Thanos after events leading up to “Avengers: Infinity War.” Our new hero, Richard Rider, attempts to rebuild the group, and the main concept is MCU space cops or Marvel’s version of “Green Lantern,” but with the helping hand of taking place in an established cosmic corner of the MCU.

Either of those comic book projects would likely make a huge star out of anyone that gets involved, yet, who actually ends up in those parts doesn’t sound exactly set for the time being.
