What is ‘Bosch: Legacy’ About?

A spin-off to the detective procedural TV series Bosch, Bosch: Legacy follows the title character into retirement, leaving his career with the LAPD behind to open a private investigation practice. As Harry Bosch (Welliver) adjusts to his new lifestyle, he assists his daughter Maddie (Lintz) on the ropes of police work, as she has joined the LAPD as a patrol officer. Bosch also helps high-powered attorney Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers) evade danger and avoid legal trouble, setting her up as Los Angeles’ next District Attorney.
Bosch: Legacy takes story cues from Michael Connelly’s acclaimed source novels, with Season 1 adapting The Wrong Side of Goodbye and The Night Fire. The first season ended with Maddie’s ostensible kidnapping by a serial rapist named Kurt Dockweiler (David Denman), aka Screen Cutter, a moniker given to him for his breaking-and-entering MO.

Recently given the official title Ballard, Maggie Q will take the rudder handed by Titus Welliver and keep the Bosch franchise afloat. Homicide detective Renee Ballard will be introduced in the Bosch: Legacy finale, where she meets Harry and helps him with an unresolved case. In addition to leading the LAPD’s Cold Case Unit, Ballard is tasked with operating a severely underfunded workforce of volunteers in a city with the most unsolved cases on record.
While Ballard has not been given a release date, the spin-off is expected to air on Prime Video and Freevee sometime in 2025. Titus Welliver is slated to appear in the pilot to help Ballard uncover a larger conspiracy that requires his detective prowess.
Whether Madison Lintz reprises her role as Maddie Bosch, Michael Connelly assured fans that Ballard will have the same exhilarating formula as Bosch, stating (via Variety):
