DC Studios Reveals “Gorgeous” First Footage of ‘Dynamic Duo’ Robin Movie at Cinema Con

Apr 9, 2025

This year’s Cinema Con has been a treat for DC fans. As well as showing off some new footage from James Gunn’s Superman and bringing the film’s cast to the stage, audiences in attendance were also treated to the first footage from the DCU’s most ambitious and unique project so far… Dynamic Duo. The new film was announced in December last year, and will focus on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, the first two Robins under Batman. We already knew the project would utilize an incredibly unique style of animation, and those at Cinema Con got to witness it first hand.
Following Warner Bros.’ presentation at Cinema Con, reports were released online detailing what footage from Dynamic Duos was released. The clips came as part of a wider sizzle reel for Warner Bros. Animation. According to @TheMoviePodcast, the footage shows the Batmobile crashing through a pillar, and one of the Robins (believed to be Dick Grayson) riding on the subway. The footage didn’t reveal much in terms of plot. However, all the reports highlighted the breathtaking and “gorgeous” animation.

‘Superman’ Officially Getting a Five-Minute Trailer Only in Theaters This Week Before Major Blockbuster

DCU fans will be getting a lengthy preview of ‘Superman’ later this week.

In past interviews, James Gunn has stated that he wants characters in the DCU to move freely between different mediums (like live-action and animation). But, few were expecting it to happen within the same movie. When the film was first announced, it was revealed that Swaybox — a relatively new puppetry studio — would be developing the movie in association with DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. The film will reportedly feature a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI. Unfortunately for fans, we’ll be waiting a while to see the finished film. If you thought animation took a long time, puppetry on film takes even longer to shoot. As a result, Dynamic Duos is currently slated to release in theaters on June 30, 2028.
Who Are Dick Grayson and Jason Todd in the DCU?

If you’ve read any of the Batman comics or dipped your toes into the DC Animated Universe, then the names Dick Grayson and Jason Todd should be very familiar to you. However, both characters have yet to receive the depictions they deserve on the big screen. Dick Grayson technically has debuted on the big screen, played by Chris O’Donnell in Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. But, that is probably better off forgotten.
In the comics, Dick Grayson was the first Robin. Growing up as part of a family traveling circus, his parents were murdered by a Gotham City crime boss during one of their performances. Bruce Wayne, in attendance, took Grayson in and eventually offered to train him as Robin. Grayson then went on to become his own superhero, Nightwing. As for Jason Todd, he was caught by Batman stealing the rims of the Batmobile. Instead of beating the kid to a pulp, Batman bought him food, learned about his orphaned past, and also offered to take him in. Jason Todd later became the vigilante known as Red Hood, following a dramatic state of affairs involving The Joker.
Fans have been desperate to see Dick Grayson and Jason Todd on the big screen for years. As well as starring in Dynamic Duos, they are both expected to appear in The Brave and the Bold, which will introduce Batman in the DCU.
