‘Thunderbolts*’ Final Trailer Finds Florence Pugh Leaping Into Action to Save the MCU

Apr 23, 2025

Marvel’s Thunderbolts* is just two weeks away, and Marvel Studios has now released one last trailer for the final film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 5. Thunderbolts* has featured an unconventional marketing campaign, as in addition to standard trailers, they also released a stylistic A24-inspired trailer and a behind-the-scenes video selling the practical stunts that have made the seemingly questionable film into a highly anticipated blockbuster. With Thunderbolts* kicking off the summer movie season, and box office tracking on the lower end of Marvel Studios’ ambitious highs, a final trailer has been released that sells the epic emotional scope of the film.
Marvel Studios has released a new trailer for Thunderbolts*, called “Final Trailer”. The footage officially confirms that Lewis Pullman’s Bob is none other than The Sentry and that his alter ego, The Void, is the primary villain. It also features footage from 2021’s Black Widow and 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, highlighting the larger history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

‘Broke’ & ‘Thunderbolts*’ Star Addresses Nepo Baby Status: “It’s a Million Times Easier”

The son of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn says that being a “nepo baby” makes Hollywood easier for one obvious reason many people don’t think about.

This is underscored by Geraldine Viswanathan’s character saying she was in high school when The Avengers first formed, not only placing her history within the MCU but also a meta-commentary on an audience who likely saw The Avengers in high school now being in their late 20s or early 30s as Thunderbolts* opens in theaters. You can check out the final Thunderbolts* trailer below.
‘Thunderbolts*’ Could be the Surprise Hit of the Summer

The final Thunderbolts* trailer using footage from Black Widow and Captain America: Civil War, as well as The Avengers name-drop, is very similar to The Marvels “Final Trailer” which not only featured Tony Stark and Steve Rogers but showed footage from Avengers: Endgame to connect in audience minds this is the continuation of that epic story. While it didn’t work for The Marvels, as it became the MCU’s first box office bomb, the hope is that for Thunderbolts*, it will pay off and generate more buzz around the film, which reportedly has already generated strong word of mouth from test audiences.
Marvel is certainly confident in Thunderbolts*, as it is the first non-sequel that Marvel has released on the coveted first weekend of May since The Avengers in 2012, and even that could be argued as a semi-sequel, making Thunderbolts* the first untested new entry in the MCU to open in May since Thor back in 2011. While Thunderbolts* box office tracking is below most recent MCU titles, it looks to open above Thor and hopefully will have strong word of mouth like Guardians of the Galaxy or Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings did. Fandango is holding fan screenings of Thunderbolts* on Apr. 22, ten days before the film opens in theaters, showing their confidence in the movie.
Thunderbolts* is a key film in the future of the MCU, as much of the main cast is confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday. After a series of critically mixed films like Captain America: Brave New World, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a lot is riding on Thunderbolts*. Marvel Studios seems to know this as the trailer’s tagline of “One Last Chance for Redemption” not only speaks to the characters on the titular team, but also to the MCU itself. Even if that sounds like hyperbole given that The Fantastic Four: First Steps comes out two months later, Thunderbolts* looks to remind the audience that this is a franchise built on second-string heroes, and they are just as worthy of attention as the big names.
