Ryan Reynolds Is Quietly Developing a Deadpool/X-Men Crossover Movie
May 3, 2025
Deadpool may be done flying solo, but that doesn’t mean Ryan Reynolds is done with the Merc With a Mouth. In fact, Deadpool & Wolverine may have been the last standalone outing for Wade Wilson — but if Reynolds gets his way, his katana-wielding antihero could be headed back to the big screen with some mutant company.
According to new report from THR, Reynolds is in the early stages of developing a new Deadpool movie that would feature an ensemble of X-Men characters. It’s still extremely early — no pitch has been made to Marvel Studios at this time — but Reynolds is reportedly working on multiple treatments with the idea of bringing “three or four” iconic mutants into the mix. In a twist, the film wouldn’t necessarily center on Deadpool. Instead, he might play more of a supporting role to allow space for new dynamics.
Ryan Reynolds Doesn’t Want Another Solo Deadpool Movie
After Deadpool & Wolverine shattered box office records with $1.338 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, Reynolds made it clear he wasn’t looking to headline another solo outing. Instead, he’s shifting focus to writing — not only on this potential team-up, but also on his Paramount comedy Boy Band, which has Hugh Jackman circling a co-starring role.
Reynolds’ interest in folding Deadpool into an X-Men crossover isn’t new. All three Deadpool films have featured players from the mutant corner of the Marvel Universe, including Colossus (Stefan Kapičić), and Deadpool & Wolverine brought back Sabretooth (Tyler Mane) and Pyro (Aaron Stanford). He also gave Channing Tatum a role — long after Tatum’s standalone Gambit film at Fox fizzled out. Tatum’s Gambit is even set to return for Avengers: Doomsday while Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have yet to get an official callback for the ensemble film.
No word yet on which mutants he’s eyeing this time, though Wicked star Cynthia Erivo has made it known she’d love to play Storm. And he’d probably drag Jackman along too, mocking his age, his abs and his Aussie accent all at the same time, no doubt. As with all Marvel projects, casting would ultimately be Marvel’s call. And this particular film would be separate from the X-Men reboot currently being scripted by Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes writer Michael Lesslie. You know, in case you were worried we wouldn’t have enough X-Men movies.
Deadpool & Wolverine is streaming now on Disney+. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on this project that will either blow our minds or get shoved into a Reynolds family drawer for the next decade.
