Netflix Delivers a Unique Action Thriller With ‘Black Doves’
Netflix
Black Doves Season 1 was a huge hit for Netflix after landing on the streaming platform at the end of last year. The action thriller series now stands at a “Certified Fresh” rating of 94% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, who praised the successful blending of genres, Keira Knightley’s lead performance, and how creator Joe Barton has crafted a truly unique action thriller. MovieWeb’s own Greg Archer called the series a “slick, addictive outing that Keira Knightley can sink her creative teeth into,” adding…
“It’s a plot-twist-filled drama that finds Knightley as a conflicted spy whose personal life, career, and past suddenly collide. It’s a career high for the actress, who is in great company with a solid cast featuring Ben Whishaw (No Time to Die, TV’s Fargo), Sarah Lancashire (Julia, Happy Valley), Wallace Webb, Omari Douglas, and Sam Troughton.”
Speaking with Netflix Tudum following the release of the first season, Barton teased the plot of Black Doves Season 2, revealing that he likes the idea of seeing Helen getting “pulled deeper into the world of spies having been so close to leaving.” As her husband, Wallace, edges closer to the top job as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, this inevitably “increases the pressure and the danger on her as a spy.”
“Just seeing the tension of that, seeing Sam back in London … I would like to see more Eleanor and Williams, Kai-Ming, all those people. I’d like to start to throw them up against one another again, and maybe make things more dangerous and challenging for them.”
Keira Knightley, meanwhile, has revealed her plans for Black Doves Season 2, revealing who she would love to kill. And her choice is pretty understandable. “I want to kill Dani,” the actress declared. “I don’t think it’s OK that she tried to f*ck my husband and kill me on Christmas Eve.”
