‘Star Wars’ Katee Sackhoff Says She Would Fight Karen Gillan to Be the DCU’s Poison Ivy

May 13, 2025

The world of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU

is only just getting started, and there are more surprises to come in the next several years. With plenty of characters still to be cast, many names have started to surface in relation to some of the possible players in movies such as The Bold and the Brave, the first main Batman-orientated project currently on the DCU slate. One character that many fans have already cast in that project – or a stand-alone movie – is Poison Ivy, with several suggesting that Karen Gillan should team up with her Guardians of the Galaxy director again as the plant-loving Batman villain. However, it looks like the Nebula actress has competition from Katee Sackhoff,

who is currently best known as The Mandalorian’s Bo-Katan Kryze.

Uma Thurman and Clare Foley were memorable, but these candidates could don the tight green jumpsuit with style and make captivating eco-terrorists.

Sackoff recently spoke to MovieWeb’s George Edelman while promoting her new movie Fight or Flight, which also stars Josh Hartnett, but took a moment to address her love for a certain DC Green Goddess, and how she is more than willing to “brawl” Gillan to take on the role. She said:

“I would love to play Poison Ivy. I think Karen Gillan and I would have to brawl each other for that honor. But there is a vulnerability to her that I’ve never seen portrayed, and I would love to dive into who she is. I think that [getting] to see the humanity in her would be intoxicating.”

Katee Sackhoff Could Swap ‘Star Wars’ for a DC Return, but Faces Some Tough Competition

One thing that James Gunn has made clear is that he wants to see the new DCU be as coherent as possible, with the same actors playing both live-action and animated versions of the same character, as well as potentially voicing them in video games. This kind of crossover role would be nothing new to Sackhoff, as after voicing Death Watch lieutenant-turned-Mandalorian loyalist Bo-Katan in several seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, she then went on to portray her in live-action in Seasons 2 and 3 of The Mandalorian.
While Sackhoff is expected to make more appearances in that franchise, it seems that she would be more than happy to extend her talent to the DCU, but if Ivy is her poison, those brawl comments could be exactly right as there will be some tough competition for the role, if and when it comes around.
Karen Gillan became a fan-favorite as Doctor Who companion Amy Pond during Matt Smith’s run as the Time Lord, and among many highly-praised performances, joined the roster of Marvel’s finest, playing the daughter of Thanos, Nebula, in several Guardians of the Galaxy movies, as well as Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder. The actress previously threw her hat in the ring to join the DCU as Poison Ivy in 2023, saying:

“I always thought that Poison Ivy was really fun. So maybe something like that would be cool. Honestly, if James asked me to play an alien that sits in the background of a shot and doesn’t talk, I would say yes [laughs]. Because working with him has been one of the great joys of my career so far.”

Let the brawling commence. We’ll bring the popcorn.
