Amazon Renews Hit Wasteland Series For Season 3, Season 2 Arrives In December

May 13, 2025

Amazon‘s acclaimed series “Fallout” alongside HBO‘s “The Last of Us” have been a sort of revelation of how to tackle mature video game properties for an older audience while making shows that die-hard fans can be proud of. As “Fallout” skews more in the realm of dark comedy, that hasn’t lessened the show’s impact with audiences and has become one of the most notable popular shows on the streaming service.
With that in mind, in an official announcement shared with The Playlist, Amazon has announced that a third season has been greenlit ahead of the December premiere of season two. Exciting news for fans of the satirical exploration of the wasteland created by Bethesda with their long-running video game franchise.

“Fallout” has a bit of an RPG team quest angle as we mainly follow three varied characters: A gunslinging Ghoul played by Walton Goggins (who made a huge splash recently in HBO’s “The White Lotus” and “The Righteous Gemstones“), a naive young Vault Dweller played by Ella Purnell exploring the wasteland for the first time, and an apprehensive/conflicted member of The Brotherhood of Steel played by Aaron Moten.
In the show, we’re many many years in the rearview of an all-out nuclear holocaust (set in a fictional retro-futuristic version of the United States) spearheaded by a shadowy corporate cabal that ends up using their Vault-Tech bunkers (essentially underground cities/colonies) to test out various science experiments on surviving humans and other creatures along with using their discoveries to help extended their own lives. Outside of the vaults, there are various factions trying to secure power over whatever is left of the United States, as others are just trying to survive this harsh radioactive landscape.
“The holidays came a little early this year – we are thrilled to be ending the world all over again for a third season of ‘Fallout,’” said executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy of Kilter Films in an official statement. “On behalf of our brilliant cast and crew, our showrunners Geneva and Graham, and our partners at Bethesda, we’re grateful to our incredible collaborators at Amazon MGM Studios and to the amazing fans as we continue our adventures in the wasteland together.”
“We’re so grateful to have survived the apocalypse for another season! Thanks to the incredible team — our whole cast and crew, Kilter, and Amazon,” added showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner.

Speaking of Season 2 coming out at the end of the year, without spoiling too much, the next wave of episodes will take place in New Vegas, which is assumed to take loose inspiration from the video game “Fallout: New Vegas.”
