Sofia Carson Romances a ‘Queen Charlotte’ Star in First ‘My Oxford Year’ Images

May 13, 2025

Move over, Emily in Paris, Anna is in London, and she’s about to have the time of her life. My Oxford Year brings together two of the best Netflix romance leads, Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest, as they embark on their next love adventure. Carson plays Anna, an ambitious young American woman who goes to the University of Oxford to fulfill a dream she had as a child. Anna’s life is on the path she has worked to keep it, until she meets a charming and clever Londoner, Jamie, who knocks it off its path and alters both their lives. Iain Morris directed My Oxford Year from a screenplay by Allison Burnett and Melissa Osborne. Events in the film are based on Julia Whelan’s novel of the same name which was adapted from Burnett’s original screenplay. Netflix unveiled first-look images of the film premiering on the platform on August 1, showing Carson in her Oxford year and the man she meets.
“Our story is a film that in every frame reaffirms the belief that life is too short to not live it in love. To not live it in joy. And I hope that truth rings true in the hearts of anyone who watches our film,” Carson told TUDUM about what she hopes viewers take away from My Oxford Year. “You can expect some laughs, a lot of love, maybe some sadness, a couple of surprises along the way, but [you can expect] to meet two really lovely, very human characters and all of their amazing friends and family. Get ready for a lovely journey,” Mylchreest said to the outlet.
Where You May Have Seen ‘My Oxford Year’ Stars Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest Before

Frequent Netflix movies and TV shows viewers may have seen Carson and Mylchreest on the platform before. Carson starred in the 2022 romance film Purple Hearts alongside Nicholas Galitizne and was recently on Carry On and The Life List, all for Netflix. Mylchreest gained popularity for playing King George in the Bridgerton prequel series, Queen Charlotte. His work on it helped him land My Oxford Year. “I watched Queen Charlotte in awe of Corey. He’s an extraordinary force of an actor. When it came time to cast Jamie, I always knew it would be Corey,” Carson, also an executive producer on the film, said. She added:

“As soon as he walked into the room for our chemistry read in London, Anna and Jamie came to life. Instantly. Corey was a true partner in this experience . . . And together we were dedicated to diving into Anna and Jamie’s love story, to bring it to life with every bit of our hearts.”

My Oxford Year begins on Netflix on August 1. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and watch Carson’s recent movie on the platform.
