‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ Completes Hat-Trick of Hits at Warner Bros. With Massive Domestic Box Office Debut

May 18, 2025

The summer movie season is heating up after the debut of Marvel’s Thunderbolts* a couple of weeks ago, and the sustained success of Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. This week saw the release of Final Destination Bloodlines, the sixth installment in the long-running horror franchise, and the first new film of the series in nearly 15 years. This is a long enough gap for Bloodlines to almost qualify as a legacy-quel. The movie exceeded expectations in its domestic debut, grossing a record-breaking $51 million. This is around $15 million higher than initial projections, and around $3 million more than the $48 million that Sinners debuted with last month.
Not only is this the biggest debut in the franchise’s history, it is greater than the lifetime runs of Final Destination 2 and Final Destination 5, and the biggest-ever debut for an R-rated horror movie in the post-pandemic era. In fact, Bloodlines will probably also overtake the first and third films by Monday. It’ll become the highest-grossing installment of the series before it enters its second weekend; the number to beat is $66 million, earned by the fourth film, The Final Destination. Produced on a reported budget of $50 million, Bloodlines also scored the best reviews in the franchise’s history, and is sitting at a “certified fresh” 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, in addition to a “verified hot” 89% audience score and a B+ CinemaScore from opening day crowds.
After a rusty start to the year, Warner Bros. is back in the game with a trio of hits — the wave of success began not with Sinners or Bloodlines, but with A Minecraft Movie. All three films found spots in the top five list this weekend. But they were separated by Thunderbolts*. The superhero movie grossed around $17 million in its third weekend of release, pushing its running total past the $150 million milestone. Sinners grossed around $15 million in its fifth weekend, taking its running total past the $140 million mark.
The Weeknd’s ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ Bombed In Its Debut

The fourth spot was claimed by A Minecraft Movie, which added a little under $6 million in its seventh frame, pushing its domestic total to just over the $415 million milestone. Rounding out the top five list was Amazon MGM’s The Accountant 2, which earned an estimated $5 million in its fourth weekend, taking its total to nearly $60 million. The action sequel outperformed The Weeknd’s poorly reviewed musical thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow, which made under $3.5 million in its debut. This isn’t just a setback for the pop-star, but also for Jenna Ortega, who was riding a wave of hits before 2025 ruined her streak. She was last seen in Death of a Unicorn, which concluded its run with around $12 million. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
