‘Superman’ Trailer Sees David Corenswet Take to the Skies in James Gunn’s Reboot
May 19, 2025
Look up! The Man of Steel returns in the uplifting new trailer for Superman, writer and director James Gunn’s reboot of the iconic superhero. Starring David Corenswet
(Twisters, Hollywood) as Clark Kent/Superman alongside Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult (the X-Men movies, Juror #2) as Lex Luthor, Superman promises to reintroduce the character to modern audiences as a kind-hearted hero who does the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.
Superman is DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, and is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. Written and directed by James Gunn (the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise), the filmmaker brings his signature style to the original superhero as he crafts a newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.

Superman Returns to the Silver Screen on July 11, 2025
While there have been a variety of confusing and conflicting reactions to the Superman reboot coming out of rumored test screenings, Warner Bros.’ Mike DeLuca recently offered his take on what he’s seen from James Gunn’s vision. And it’s exactly what fans of the character want to hear…
“We’ve seen an early cut of ‘Superman,’ & I don’t want to bury the lead, there’s a lot of marketing about to roll out ahead of its release, but he [Gunn] really understood the assignment.”
Superman will take the same approach as The Batman and the MCU’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, skipping the origin and introducing us to a slightly more established version of the character. An approach which, according to Rachel Brosnahan, allows the reboot to explore Lois and Clark’s relationship like never before.
“I also love that this is not an origin story. We’ve seen the origin story done so well a number of different times, but we come into a world that already exists — Lois and Clark are working at the Daily Planet, monsters exist in Metropolis, Lex Luthor has LuthorCorp. We drop in at this point in their relationship that I’ve never seen before.
They’ve been together for about three months, and they’re asking some questions about the future of their relationship. They’re not sure if this is something that was just a really great fling or something that could be forever, and they have really opposite worldviews — and they bump up against each other that way. So, it was a really fun way into a familiar story.”
Superman is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025, as the first installment in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
