Tom Hiddleston & Brie Larson’s 75% RT Monsterverse Movie Will Be Available To Stream Free Next Month

May 25, 2025

Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston’s Kong: Skull Island was a moderate 2017 hit, which will soon be made more widely available. Serving as a reboot of the King Kong franchise and an early installment in the Monsterverse, Kong: Skull Island depicts a group of scientists and soldiers traveling to the titular island in the 1970s and encountering the famous giant ape. The movie made $568 million at the box office (requiring $450-500 million to break even) and received decent reviews, and now generally ranks mid-tier when considering the best King Kong movies.
Tubi recently reported the titles that will be added to the streaming platform as of June 1, 2025, which includes Kong: Skull Island. Tubi is a free streaming service, with revenue coming from ads. Kong: Skull Island is currently available to stream (ad-free) via HBO’s Max, to those who pay the subscription fee. Other notable titles being added to Tubi’s library in June 2025 include Hunter Schafer’s Cuckoo, the Taken trilogy, and Best Picture winner Moonlight, among many others.
What This Means For Kong: Skull Island

The Movie Will Get Some More Post-Release Exposure

Kong: Skull Island certainly wasn’t a failure when it came out, but both movies that flopped or did well enough at the box office have been known to see a resurgence when they go to streaming. However, these streaming hits typically happen on platforms such as Netflix. Kong: Skull Island has already gone through the streaming cycle with being on Max, and the fuel for a streaming resurgence may not be there anymore.

I honestly love the theory that Godzilla x Kong: Supernova’s title secretly revealed its villain.

The Monsterverse thus far has pitted both Godzilla and Kong against a number of exciting foes, both new and classic, and while I wish they would get separate movies again, I am certainly excited for Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. While plot details are under wraps, I did see a theory that the recently revealed title treatment for the movie looks to have pointed to Gigan being its main villain, and I absolutely love the idea. To begin with, this would continue the franchise’s embracing of not taking itself too seriously, but would also finally give the franchise a more Godzilla-focused story, something I’ve felt has been missing after focusing more on Kong the past three movies.

However, the bonus of Tubi is that it is free, which may prompt people (who are not already subscribed to Max) who missed Kong: Skull Island or who want to revisit it without much trouble to check it out. Tubi’s ads will slow down the viewing experience, but this isn’t a dealbreaker. More than likely, this streaming update will only slightly boost the eight-year-old movie with a small additional amount of exposure.
Our Take On Kong: Skull Island Being Added To Tubi

Skull Island Probably Isn’t Going To Be A Streaming Hit At This Point

However, I find it hard to believe that Kong: Skull Island is going to become some massive hit in the next month. It may be nonsensical when they cost money, but streaming platforms like Netflix and Max have more publicity, and when movies are added to their library, it seems to be a bigger deal. I think Kong: Skull Island has seen most of the public appreciation it is going to get, with decent theatrical and home media sales well in its past. At least, this development is exciting for people who like the movie and want a bargain opportunity to watch it.
