Home Movie News Amanda Seyfried’s Mean Girls Musical Cameo Idea Will Make You Feel Old
Mean Girls actress Amanda Seyfried has a great cameo idea for the upcoming Mean Girls movie musical, but it will make you feel very old.
Mean Girls actress Amanda Seyfried reveals she wants to cameo in the upcoming Mean Girls musical film adaption. Seyfried has been a prominent part of this award season with her nominations for The Dropout, the limited series that got Seyfried her Primetime Emmy. The actress has had a long career leading up to her win, beginning with her first feature film, Mean Girls, in 2004. Seyfried shined in her role as Karen Smith, the kindest but definitely not the smartest of the Plastics. Mean Girls is remembered as one of the most iconic films of the early 2000s and Seyfried’s Karen played a key part.

Mean Girls is set to get a new film adaption with a musical in the works at Paramount+. Entertainment Tonight caught up with Seyfried on the SAG Award red carpet, asking what she thought of the return of Mean Girls. Seyfriend shared her excitement for the film, saying she’s definitely interested in a cameo and was hoping to get her return to the Plastics in the Mean Girls musical. While the actress probably won’t reprise her role as Mean Girls weather reporter Karen, Seyfried has another role she’s hoping to take on. Check out Seyfried’s full comments below:
“I’m still hoping for a miracle, it’s not really up to us, is it? All four of us are 100% into it. Maybe the mothers of our characters? That’s what I was thinking, but listen, I have not even seen the script.”

Who Are The New Mean Girls?
Paramount’s adaption of the hit Mean Girls Broadway will star Renee Rapp, from HBO’s The Sex Lives of College Girls, as Regina George. Rapp played Regina George on Broadway and is set to return as the ultimate mean girl in the new adaption. Angourie Rice is playing newcomer Cady Heron, Moana voice actress Auli’i Cravalho has been announced as the new Janis Ian, and Jaquel Spivey joins her as the other half of the duo, Damien Leigh. The remaining members of the Plastics will be played by Bebe Wood and Avantika Vandanapu.
It’s also been announced that Tina Fey will be writing the Mean Girls movie musical and be back in her role as math teacher (and rumored drug pusher) Ms. Norbury. Tim Meadows will also be reprising his role from the original movie as Mr. Duvall, the principal in charge. Long time head of Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels, has also signed on to produce with Fey. Cameos from other original cast members could happen, too, just as Seyfried hopes. And casting the original Plastics as the mothers of the new cast would certainly make for a fun Easter egg.
It’s been 20 years since Mean Girls was released and the film has some of the most memorable moments in pop culture. Not only will the cast have to live up to the original Mean Girls—which is no easy task—but the movie will also be including all new musical numbers to go along with the familiar story. While it may seem like a big ask, this new cast looks up to the job with not only returning Mean Girls alums but experienced actors who can definitely handle a couple of Plastics. The Mean Girls musical adaptation is expected to begin filming in early March and so far, it’s looking pretty fetch.
