New ‘Superman’ Image Featuring David Corenswet Has DC Fans More Excited Than Ever
Jun 2, 2025
Fans have gotten a new image of David Corenswet as Superman, one that many think should have been the film’s first official look at the hero. In May 2024, James Gunn released the first look at Corenswet as Superman for the upcoming DCU reboot. The image, depicting the Man of Steel sitting in a chair putting on his boots with a giant alien spacecraft in the background, received a mixed response from fans. This was due to the image seemingly showing Superman not jumping into action, and also feeling like a muted first look at the costume. Fandango has revealed an exclusive new still of Corenswet in the Superman costume, which can be seen below. The image features Superman standing upright in the Fortress of Solitude in a more traditional action pose. This allows for a full-body shot, displaying all the details of the costume, which pulls from a wide variety of comic book sources, like the Kingdom Come-inspired S shield, the New 52-coded raised collar, and the classic red trunks. All of those influences combine to create something that feels classically Superman but has its own distinctive design.
‘Superman’ Marketing Has Focused on the Human Elements
It has been over a year since James Gunn revealed the first image of Superman. Since then, between trailers, posters, and other promotional images, fans have gotten plenty of looks at David Corenswet’s Kryptonian hero. The latest image does not show any new specific details about the costume, but it does show how marketing can impact how an audience perceives a movie. Interestingly, it also shows why Gunn chose the original reveal as the world’s introduction to Corenswet’s Superman and his new costume.

Warner Bros. Reveals the DCU Will Revolve Around These Four Iconic Superheroes
David Zaslav described these four characters as “big asset builders and big differentiators.”
The first Superman reveal seemed to be modeled after All-Star Superman’s iconic cover of a relaxed Superman sitting on a cloud. Gunn wants to depict his Superman in a more human, relatable way. Hence, the decision to frame him not only in his Metropolis apartment as opposed to the Fortress of Solitude, but also in a more casual manner than a classic comic book action pose. This is also why the film’s teaser trailer and the five-minute sneak peek began by depicting a beaten-up Superman, planting the idea that he is relatable to an audience who often sees him as overpowered. However, Gunn’s decision to emphasize the man as much as the super has drawn a great deal of criticism, particularly from the Snyder fanbase, who are still angry at Warner Bros.’ decision to recast Henry Cavill. They seemingly were an audience who were never going to get on board with anything Gunn did with Superman. However, the marketing efforts for Superman have paid off, as both the teaser and theatrical trailer have generated massive views on YouTube. Placing the five-minute sneak peek of Superman before screenings of A Minecraft Movie, the biggest movie of 2025 so far, has certainly helped raise its profile. Hopefully, it will all pay off, since the future of the DCU slate rests on Superman’s super-strong shoulders. Source: Fandango (X)
