James Gunn Shuts Down SUPERMAN Runtime Rumors Says WB “Couldn’t Even If They Wanted To” — GeekTyrant
Jun 11, 2025
In a recent exchange on Instagram Threads, a fan asked the DC Studios co-head, James Gunn, to confirm whether the Superman runtime clocked in at 2 hours and 9 minutes. Gunn’s reply? His response:“Inclusive of credits/post credits the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes.”Then a fan threw out the rumor claiming that Warner Bros. had asked Gunn to trim the film’s length. To that, Gunn said:“Zero truth to that. And they couldn’t even if that’s something that they wanted to [do]. It’s a DC Studios film.”So there you have it, Superman is a James Gunn project through and through, and no studio scissors are coming near it. They apparently have now power at DC Studios. This marks Gunn’s first directorial entry as the head of DC Studios, and it’s a big one. The film stars David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the bald and brilliant Lex Luthor. The cast also includes Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.Superman is the first solo film for the iconic hero since 2013’s Man of Steel, and it will lay the foundation for a brand-new DC cinematic universe.Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned. “It’s set in a world very different from ours and far removed from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for ages, and we’ll see how it affected this world’s history and has shaped the DCU.”The movie is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
