The new teaser for the upcoming season of “The Diplomat” hints that it might be. Picking up where Season 2 left off, S3 sees Keri Russell‘s US ambassador Kate Wyler navigating the State of the Union in the aftermath of the President’s death. Allison Janney‘s VP Grace Penn now runs the country, and Kate must navigate a tricky relationship with Penn’s husband Todd, played by Bradley Whitford, to see the country forward
Here’s an official synopsis for “The Diplomat” Season 3, courtesy of Netflix:
In Season Three of THE DIPLOMAT, Ambassador Kate Wyler lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want. She just accused Vice President Grace Penn of hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she’s after the VP’s job. But now the President is dead, Kate’s husband Hal may have inadvertently killed him, and Grace Penn is leader of the free world. None of this slows Hal’s campaign to land Kate the vice presidency. Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn.
Along with Russell, Janney, and Whitford, “The Diplomat” also stars Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh. Additional cast includes Michael McKean, Nana Mensah, and Miguel Sandoval.
Debora Cahn serves as creator, showrunner, and executive producer on “The Diplomat.” Other executive producers on the series include Russell, Janice Williams, Alex Graves, Peter Noah, and Eli Attie.
All eight one-hour episodes of “The Diplomat” Season 3 premiere on Netflix this Fall; stay tuned for an official release date. In the meantime, watch the first teaser for “The Diplomat” S3 below.
