The Upcoming ‘Wonder Woman’ Reboot Gets a Candid Update From James Gunn

Jul 18, 2025

This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.James Gunn is getting ready to introduce Wonder Woman to the DC Universe, but it’s going to take a while. In a recent comment made on his Threads account, the Superman filmmaker clarified the current status of Diana’s DCU debut at DC Studios. Recent rumors suggested that the studio was looking to cast an actress with plenty of television experience, just like Supergirl star Milly Alcock. These rumors turned out to be false, as Gunn himself stated:
“Nope. And I’d never in a million years look for a major role based on whether they did TV, films, or whatever. It’s all about the casting. I didn’t cast Milly because of her past, but because she was the best one for the role. (But we’re also not casting WW, nor even discussing it, until a script is finished).”
Wonder Woman is one of the many characters James Gunn and Peter Safran are looking to introduce in their new DC Universe. Superman, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, took over the global box office by storm with a $220 million global debut. The ticket sales performance of the franchise’s first theatrical release will determine the next steps for Warner Bros. and their DC brand.
When Will Wonder Woman Debut in the DCU?

After Superman received positive reviews and a decent debut at the global box office, it was reported that Warner Bros. and DC Studios were fast-tracking a Wonder Woman film. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, the latter of whom played Lois Lane in Superman, have sequel options in their respective contracts. But instead of looking for a new adventure for Clark Kent, Warner Bros. is reportedly focusing on bringing a new version of Diana to life. It might take a while for Wonder Woman to make her DCU big screen debut. While the studio is trying to get things moving on the project, James Gunn’s recent comments prove that a script for the reboot isn’t finished yet. Once a script is submitted and approved by the studio, the search for a new Wonder Woman will commence, since Gal Gadot more than likely won’t be reprising the role in the DCU. In the meantime, Warner Bros. is also working on movies based on the Teen Titans, The Authority, and a new version of Batman set to be introduced in The Brave and the Bold. A release date for the upcoming Wonder Woman movie hasn’t been set by Warner Bros at this time. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
