Home Movie News James Gunn Responds to Ray Fisher’s Criticism Over Deleted Historical Joss Whedon Tweets
A frank exchange between Ray Fisher and James Gunn surfaced based on a series of old tweets linked to Joss Whedon’s Justice League behavior.
Warner Bros. Pictures
James Gunn’s past troubles with historical tweets has been well documented over the years since his sacking and rehiring by Disney, which stemmed from a series of old tweets. However, Justice League actor Ray Fisher recently dipped into Gunn’s past to question the new DC Studios CEO about why certain interactions between the pair had been deleted by Gunn in a show of “fake grace.” Gunn responded to the claims, clarifying the reason behind his older messages no longer being available and reassuring Fisher that it was nothing to do with the content or subject of them.
Fisher’s comments were directed at Gunn’s new position as DC Studios CEO, and suggested that the writer-director had been deleting messages that were directly in response to the controversy surrounding Joss Whedon’s Justice League shoot. Fisher has been one of the most outspoken stars of the movie when it came to calling out Whedon’s toxic on-set behavior, but Gunn was quick to deny that he had purposely deleted the tweets pointed out by Fisher. Gunn said:

“ALL my tweets automatically delete every few months, Ray, it has nothing to do with my tweets to you.”

Would Ray Fisher Be Part of The Future DCU?
Even with a number of older stars of the DCU not playing a part in the franchise going forward, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg is one character that was never truly developed due to the issues faced by Justice League’s messy production. Although there has been plenty of coverage regarding the likes of Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot, there had been no word at all on whether Fisher would possibly get his chance to return to the franchise in future.
Based on the somewhat cold exchange between Fisher and Gunn, it seems unlikely that the former has been involved in any talks to reprise his role as Cyborg, and with the actor still being firmly of the opinion that Warner Bros. have not done anything to rectify the issues he faced with Whedon, it seems that the chance of him returning to the franchise in any way are as dead as the Zack Snyder universe he was a part of. For fans of the character, and the actor, this may be just another kick following the departure of Cavill and other popular franchise stars.
So far, there has been no word from Gunn as to whether Cyborg will be featured at all in the new DCU plans, but if Gunn is developing a new, younger version of the Justice League, then it seems probable that a new actor will be brought in to play the role. More of this will likely become clear when the new DCU plans are revealed fully sometime early next year, but until then, fans can only speculate on Cyborg’s role in the new universe, if he has one at all.
