Daryl Dixon To End After Season 4

Jul 27, 2025

It’s the end of an era for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, as it was announced today at SDCC during the show’s panel that the series has been renewed for a fourth season, but, sadly, it will be the last. In addition to the bittersweet news, a trailer for the upcoming third season was also released, which will take place in Spain and see stars Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride traverse various regions as they search for a way back home. As reported by Variety, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 4 will begin production later this month overseas ahead of the Season 3 premiere on September 7. In a statement released by Reedus, he thanked the fans for the support they’ve shown him over the many years they’ve been following his tumultuous path, and promised that we haven’t seen the last of one of the franchise’s most beloved characters:
“Daryl Dixon has been an incredible journey. I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride. It’s been a privilege to build this story for these characters, and we have so much gratitude for how it’s been embraced. Your love and support have made every moment worth it. This finale isn’t just an ending; it’s a celebration of what we’ve all shared together. Keep carrying that love forward – Daryl’s journey is far from over.”

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol ending perfectly set up the story for season 3.

Dixon and McBride have been with The Walking Dead franchise pretty much since its inception on AMC, with the latter appearing in the very first episode, and the former coming aboard during Episode 3, “Tell It to the Frogs.” In a statement of her own, McBride also thanked the fans and teased a little of what’s to come as the spin-off series winds down its final two seasons:
“It has been the thrill of a lifetime to shoot this part of Daryl and Carol’s adventure together in Europe and I keep coming back for more of these two characters. There is still so much story left to tell and so much for the fans to look forward to. I’m going to revel in the moments as they come and am excited for the fans to see what we have been working on in these incredible locations.”

What Is ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ Season 3 About?

After finally being reunited in Season 2, Season 3 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will track Carol and Daryl as they continue their journey towards home and the ones they love. As they struggle to find their way back, the path takes them farther astray, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of the Walker apocalypse. The trailer for the next season released today (seen above) showcases a little of the action that’s to come, as we see the two friends battle rough seas, fight Walkers, and make some new friends and enemies. Fresh faces this year include Stephen Merchant, Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, and Alexandra Masangkay, to name a few. While it’s definitely sad to be saying goodbye to the spin-off with Season 4, at least creator and showrunner David Zabel will be able to end the show on a high note, and not leave fans hanging with unresolved issues. With The Walking Dead: Dead City still ongoing at the moment after having recently been renewed for a third season, there is the possibility that we could see some crossover action, but that remains nothing more than speculation right now until we know more about where things are headed later this year. The first two seasons of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon are available to stream on AMC+, and look for Season 3 to start on Sept. 7, 2025. Source: Variety
